Kasargod, Mar 30: Kerala has already witnessed nearly 200 coronavirus-positive cases. The attitude of a Congress leader has given rise to a sense of panic and despair as he alone is suspected to have transmitted the disease to a lot of people.

Idukki district Congress secretary was detected with coronavirus presence on March 26. It is learnt that before that, he took part in various programmes, travelled to several places, and met many leaders including legislators.

The Congress secretary did not return from any foreign country recently nor is he related to such persons. It is not known how he contracted the infection, although he could have acquired it because of his public contacts. Before the infection was confirmed, he had visited Thiruvananthapuram from Idukki by travelling by train and held discussions with various people. A government official in Idukki said that the leaders he had met then are in voluntary quarantine now.

The Congress leader displayed coronavirus symptoms on March 15. On March 20, he went to a local mosque and offered prayers. He also took part in the state-wide tour of the labour unit of the party. He visited the state assembly and stayed in residential quarters meant for MLAs. Officials are worried that going by the number of people he met, there is a strong possibility of many among them having contracted the disease.

He is now being treated in the intensive care unit of Todupuzha hospital in Idukki district. Possibility aware of the way he exposed many to health risks, he also has sent his apologies through Facebook.
