Kerala CM calls up PM Modi, seeks reopening of border at Mangaluru

Thiruvananthapuram, March 29 (IANS): Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Sunday first wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and then called him up, requesting that the border between Karnataka and Kerala at Mangaluru and Coorg should remain open for movement of patients and goods.

Vijayan in a statement said that after he spoke to Modi and briefed him, Home Minister Amit Shah called him and assured him of action.

"The border at Mangaluru has been closed, inconveniencing many patients from neighbouring Kasargod in Kerala. Similarly, the Coorg entry point is the gateway of Kannur district to Karnataka, which has also been closed, disrupting the movement of essential items. Shah has assured us that things will be sorted out," said Vijayan.

Vijayan yesterday said even though Union Minister Sadananda Gowda had assured him, no headway came through.

On Sunday an ailing patient who was not allowed from the border to Mangaluru near Kasargod had to be taken back, but the patient died later.

Since Thursday night Karnataka had closed the routes, fearing the spread of Covid-19 to their state, as Kerala has the highest number of positive cases in the country.

Kasargod being the epic center of corona virus in Kerala with almost 50% of reported in the state, the Kerala CM wants to keep his state safe from spreading the virus to south and trying to push it to north to Mangalore. If the borders are opened and patiens are let in to Mangalore it will be a recipe for disaster to the population of Mangalore and undevided DK district. With the very limited facility for treatment available in Mangalore and Udupi districts, authorities shouldn't be giving up to the tactics of Kerala government. Think about the safety of population of Mangalore first.

We know how our chief minister was minister was treated by the Kerala goons. Go to Kerala restaurant . The surver won't come to your table unless you call.. They grab kannadigas jobs . They are so influential .

The central govt employees of Kerala get advance salary during Onam. One year onum was on 8 September. August they got salary and again advance salary of September. Do central govt employees of other states get like that ?

Our govt should not yield to such tactics..Mr Sadananbda Gowda should shut his mouth now. Kerala is hosting about it's preparedness about Corona. Then why do they come tokarnataka. Otherwise give Karasagod to Karnataka.

They open restaurants here and take all the money and put it in kasargod.

They get trained in our hospitals and later go and serve in the Gulf or back in Kerala.

KL 14 are the biggest traffic violators.

Keep you views limited for Bangaluru, where the rich people took up morning walk because (1) they are free, don't have to go to work (2) the roads are empty - during lockout days. Leave Mangalureans to deal with their own problems.

I don't know whether you know or not, Keralites are lazy goons who gang up and reach to places where one of their agent enters first and then gradually their entire battalion finds job there. Its same here in Mangaluru, its so in the Gulf, America, Europe and everywhere. They don't allow peaceful existence of manufacturing units, hospitals, colleges in their place by immediate making unions and calling strike at the drop of a hat. This time, let them learn a lesson.

For what purpose is the state is holding highly literate title ? To leave the old people and children at home and work outside at others' cost to establish businesses ?

People & Government should remove all borders, Physical & mental barriers with in the nation based on different regions, cultures, casts and economical and encourage free flow of people, goods. Boarders & barriers with in the country will lead to the disintegration of India.

And, rest of the nation requires visa to see their tourist attractions. I don't think any state will entertain their request, they will send them packing back to their state.

Opening the Borders is like spilling water over that fire were all the efforts will be flushed at ones. They have enough hospitals and medical collages at Kerala to have thier people treated there and this city is no longer a tourist destination for the sick ones to flok into here at this time of global epidemic.
