Mangaluru, Mar 29: Some hours of relief from the lockdown will be provided to citizens on Tuesday March 31 in order to procure essential commodities, informed district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary here on Sunday March 29.

Poojary told reporters here that lockdown will continue on Monday March 30, but on Tuesday, shops selling essential commodities like groceries will remain open from 6 am to 3 pm.

"People have supported the strict lockdown over the past two days in the district. On Monday too the district will be under complete lockdown. On Tuesday we will allow people to buy essentials from 6 am to 3 pm," he said.

He also urged people to observe social distancing while buying essential supplies.

"Only person per family should go out to buy essentials, and items should be sold at fixed prices. We will take stringent action against any vendor who sells essential supplies at exorbitant prices. The deputy commissioner has been instructed to take action if anyone charges more than the MRP," he said.

On arrangements done to provide food to the poor and stranded migrants, he said, "Food will be arranged under the aegis of the religious endowment department. Around 1,500 destitute will be provided food and shelter. We have also made arrangements to distribute food through Indira Canteen in Mangaluru."
