Bengaluru, Feb 26: Shubhashree, who was fired at and injured on February 25, was of Odisha origin. She has been working at National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) since the last two years. Amarendra Patnaik, who also is a native of Odisha, works at Hyderabad as software engineer. It has since transpired that Amarendra is a former lover of Shubhashree. He was to marry another girl on Wednesday February 26, but is being treated for injuries after attempting suicide.

Murder attempt on Shubhashree was made at 6 pm on Tuesday near Munekolalu in Marathhalli. Shubhashree, who came back to the paying guest accommodation (PG) after work on Tuesday evening was fired at with a country pistol by Amarendra in front of her PG. Amarendra had left the pistol back at the spot of firing, before escaping. Shubhashree who was seriously injured, was admitted into a private hospital.

The police, who got information about the firing, had formed special investigation team. But before he could be caught, Amarendra tried to end his life on Wednesday morning. Amarendra, before trying to end his life, left behind a 17 page death note in which he wished Shubhashree well. Both are being treated in the same hospital. The police who went deep to find what relationship they had, realized that they were lovers in the past, but eventually they had broken up the relationship. Amarendra's marriage was fixed to be performed with another girl today.

Shubhashree was angry at the fact that her former lover was tying nuptial knots with another girl. For breaking this relationship, she sent a photo of her in the company of Amarendra to the would-be bride. The bride, who saw the photo, broke the marriage. Amarendra, who got angry at the fact that the marriage got cancelled, decided to kill Shubhashree.

Amarendra could not tolerate the fact that Shubhashree was blocking his marriage, although the two had parted ways. He came here from Hyderabad, waited for Shubhashree's arrival at her PG on Tuesday evening, and fired at her abdomen. Out of fear, he left the pistol there before going away. He then tried to end his own life.

The police said they will obtain statements of both Shubhashree and Amarendra once their health condition improves. Whitefield deputy commissioner of police, Anuchet, said that Shubhashree is out of danger but Amarendra's condition is precarious.
