Mangaluru: 'India will become 'Vishwa Guru' with new education policy' - Ramesh Pokhriyal

Mangaluru, Feb 26: "The new proposed education policy of the country is based on the ethics and value system. This will strengthen the country immensely and make India the the leading educator in the world," said Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, union minister for HRD.

Pokhryial was at NITK Suratkal on Tuesday, February 25 to inaugurate the new central research unit. He further said, "India will become 'Vishwa Guru' if the proposed policy is brought into action. The life of citizens of this country will be easy and will have a meaning. Despite having one crore teaching faculty and 33 crore students, in addition to 45,000 degree colleges, 16 lac school and 1,000 universities, the Indian education system lacks values in its teaching."

The minister assured the organization (NITK) of all support from the HRD ministry at centre to realize their demands. He also said that Rs 40 crore will be released for the infrastructure development of the institute.

Speaking on the occasion, K Umamaheshwar Rao, director of NITK urged the minister to shift the NITK toll gate from the present area as it is situated very close to the institute and may cause safety issues for girl students of the institute. Rao also urged the minister to implement the plan of setting up third branch of Kendriya Vidyalaya on the campus as soon as possible.

The central research unit that was inaugurated by the minister is set up at a cost of Rs 80 crore. This consists of latest and top notch research equipment that is imported from countries like Japan, Germany and USA.

According to Prof Uday Bhat, president CRF, the new lab will give the research students more accurate results. It will be helpful for students coming for research from other institutions also.

In the meantime, foundation stone was laid by Ramesh Pokhriyal for boys and girls hostel on the campus of NITK. The programme was presided over by Prof K Balaveera Reddy, chairperson of NITK Board of governors.

    This HRD Minister is dreaming seems. We produce bunch of Engineers but no experience and we talk about Vishwa Guru. Fist of all there is no latest equipment in the laboratories and the student are taught on old equipment in NIITS which are obsolete now. We talk about skill development but don't provide hands on experience to students in their chosen field. Leave apart, none of the Indian universities are ranked in the global ranking index so far. We need highly educated versatile education minister to turn around our education system to suit the global level. Let us hope for the new education system which makes new generation Vishwa Guru.

    Like former HRD minister Smriti Irani new HRD minister in the PM Modi' 2.0 fake degree row returns to haunts Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank.

    The RTI filed in Dehradun last year about his educational qualifications came back with only incomplete information and details of his bio-data.

    To make matters worse, his date of birth mentioned in his CV does not match with his passport. Pokhriyal was born on August 15, 1959 as per his CV, while his passport says July 15, 1959 a discrepancy of 30 days.

    This discrepancy was confirmed by the information available on the Uttarakhand state website. However, the minister's office has rubbished the claims.

    His obsession for the 'Dr' suffix has led him to get two honorary doctorate degrees from a Sri Lanka-based international university.

    Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank was felicitated with a doctorate degree of Open International University twice- once in the late 90s and the second time in late 2000s. The exact date of the first honorary degree remains unknown, but the second one was near the time when he assumed the CM office in the hill state in 2009.
    In the 90s, the Open International University (OIU) of Colombo conferred a DLitt for his contribution in literature. And then, a few years ago he received another DLitt degree from the same university for contributions in the field of science.
    However, OIU is neither registered as a foreign university nor as a domestic university in Sri Lanka, the university grants commission of Sri Lanka confirmed.

    Unfortunately Suffix 'Doctorate' of India's new HRD minister from unknown Colombo university is now predicting the India's future education policy.

    Now with the current leadership 'Pakora' job in the morning and 'Chowkidhari' in the evening is only confirm.

    Need to make SAMSKRT and Yoga compulsory in KG/Middle schools/High schools in India,..COMPULSORY...
    Yoga should have Meditation also .since the Students will have a COOL mind.
    Even being vegetarians will help to cool the mind.
    from my experience and perspective.
    No religion involved.. it is just the and discipline..Practice. helping our Body and mind.

    What a joke???
    We have our ministers on holiday in Ibiza, utilising governments education funds... And here someone says we will be Vishwa guru.. what is the literacy rate in India???
    There is a reason why we are called developing countries since decades.. we are deprevived of basic rights and there is no one to questions this injustice..
    When people have free education up to 18 years in most of the countries here in India we have to Shell out 1 lakh rupees for kindergarten..

    Let's hope so, but for this commercialization of education must stop. Now its a profit making business in the hands of powerful people including politicians.Especially PU residential programs offered by most of prestigious private colleges is just fooling the people.They promise big but "drive for results" approach is absent.

    As per the report:
    The "top notch research equipment" costing Rs 80 crore is imported from Japan, Germany and USA.

    But it is not the expensive imported equipment that will make the students smart.

    Instead it is the "new education policy" that will make India the Vishwa Guru!
