Mangaluru, Feb 26: At the sitting of the magisterial inquiry being conducted into the unsavoury incidents culminating in firing in the city on December 19 last, evidences were furnished on behalf of the police department on Tuesday. The sitting was held at the court hall of the assistant commissioner here.

Individual evidences will be furnished by the police department on March 4.

The magisterial inquiry into the firing incident which took place during the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protests is being led by Udupi deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha. The police were given an opportunity to provide individual evidences on Tuesday. But the police personnel to whom notices were served seeking their appearances could not appear for the hearing on account of unavoidable circumstances. Therefore, only documentary evidences were furnished.

On behalf of the police department, post-mortem reports, case registration records, forensic science laboratory reports, and other leading evidences relating to violence, disturbances and firing incident were submitted to the inquiry officer by Panambur assistant commissioner of police Belliappa.

The police department has already furnished to the inquiry officer a list of 176 police personnel who are ready to depose about the firing incident. Now the individual evidences will be provided on March 4. Relating to the magisterial inquiry, already written statements, video clips etc have been collected by the inquiry officer from the general public and also recorded evidences.
