Mangaluru: Kambala Jockey Srinivas Gowda may join SAI training in April

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Feb 25: Srinivas Gowda, who has come to be identified as 'Usain Bolt of Kambala' on account of his feat in the Aikala Kambala, is likely to join the Sports Authority of India (SAI) training at Bengaluru in April. Before that, he will be provided with preliminary training at the Swaraj Maidan track at Moodbidri.

Srinivas Gowda is basically a construction worker who has a rural upbringing. Gowda runs barefoot in Kambala races and has never used spike shoe. Kambala Academy convener, Gunapal Kadamba, noted that Gowda does not have knowledge about tacks and athletics. Therefore, the academy has decided to provide him preliminary training through trainers to run in the tracks at Swaraj Maidan Moodbidri and Mangala Stadium here, he said.

SAI south India centre director, Ajay Kumar Behl, led three officials of the authority to Anna -Thamma Kambala held at Paivalike on Saturday night. They held talks with Gowda and invited him to attend training at Bengaluru. SAI athletic coaches, Kurien P Mathew and Harish were present during the discussions.

Kadamba said that the Kambala season will end on March 7 after which a decision on Gowda's visit to Bengaluru will be decided. He said that Gowda needs some rest after the end of Kambala season. He said that this matter has been clarified to SAI. "Kambala academy trainer Vasanth Jogi, is a national athletic trainer. He will provide training to Srinivas Gowda," he stated.

I feel mr. Gowda has a Bright future He has run the distance shorter than Usain Bolt. I am sure which training he will attain more Perfection and we'll be able to beat Usain Bolt. He will be definitely be an asset for the sports of India. I appreciate the efforts taken by Sports Authority of India to train this person.

Good luck. My only concern is his age. He is already 28 and he is just starting his sports career so it would be very difficult to compete with young runners. All the best.

Both Srinivas Gowdas and Usain Bolts identity is different. Srinivas Gowda has has become famous overnight in a different sport considering his running speed and ability. So he iis now taking up training in the track sport and trying to become an athlete. So let h im do his job and become successful. Why always compare with Usain Bolt. Let us see the progress and outcome afterwards.

What about Usain Bolt, # 1 and # 2 winners of recent Kamabla Winners.

It is fair if they both are trained along with our charming Srinivas Gowda.

Out of three, at least one, if possible can beat record of PT Usha which may
    later inspire them for Olympics.

    All the best.

Hope you look at the "barefoot" Vibram type of shoes.

They are natural fit for barefoot runners. But may be a little expensive.
