M'luru: MSNM Besant Institute of PG studies conducts conference on 'Start-ups in India'

Mangaluru, Feb 21: MSNM Besant Institute of Post Graduate Studies hosted a full-day conference on ‘Start-ups in India – Challenges, Issues and Opportunities’ in association with Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Thursday, February 20, 2020, at Nethravathi Auditorium at MSNM Besant campus at Bondel, Mangaluru.

Dr V Ravindrachary registrar (Evaluation), Mangalore University inaugurated the conference. Vittaldas Leeladhar former deputy governor, Reserve Bank of India gave the keynote address. There were 72 participants in the workshop comprising of faculty members and students from institutes in and around Mangaluru.



Addressing the gathering, Dr V Ravindrachary observed, “Students have potential but they lack confidence. Government has taken the right step to promote start-ups to provide opportunities to talented individuals. Institutions should identify and support talented individuals to build confidence and create a progressive society. This conference has provided a platform for knowledge sharing.”

Delivering the keynote address, V Leeladhar said, “Large start-ups which have been incurring immense losses have been focusing on valuation and expansion rather than minimizing the losses. There is a huge potential of native start-ups where entrepreneurs focus on the local geographical area.”

The objective of the conference was to provide a platform for academicians, research scholars, students and business professionals to share their knowledge, ideas and findings on start-ups.

Bobby Pauly partner, Tata Opportunities Fund at Tata Capital Private Equity, Dr Madanmohan Rao research director, YourStory Media, Bengaluru and Gaurang Shetty chief innovation catalyst at Riidl were the key speakers at the conference.

Tanuja Maben founder, Forrader Academy, Prajwal M community manager, IKP Knowledge and Prachetha Shetty COO and director, Thacher Farmtech Pvt Ltd, were the speakers in the panel discussion.

President of Women’s National Education Society Kudpi Jagadish Shenoy, vice-president Manel Annappa Nayak, secretary Devananda Pai and members Nagar Narayan Shenoy and Raghav Kamath were present.

Conference chairperson and Institute director Dr Molly S Chaudhuri welcomed the gathering. Prof Usha Mogra delivered the vote of thanks. Nanditha PM assistant professor compered the programme
