Dubai: ‘SMMC Sports’ outdoor mega event to be held on Feb 21

Dubai, Feb 20: St Mary’s Mangalorean Community (SMMC) Dubai is all set to present this year’s first mega event of the organisation, ‘SMMC Sports-2020’. The day-long outdoor cricket and volley ball tournament will be taking place at Vision Cricket Center, Al Nazwa, Near Al Madam, Oman-Hatta Road on February 21from 7:00 am to 5.30 pm.

Since its commencement in 2013, SMMC, a fast growing and popular Mangalorean organization at St Mary’s Catholic Church, Dubai is functioning to fulfill the spiritual and community requirements of the huge Mangalorean Konkani community of Dubai and has been successfully organizing various events like dramas, sports events, competitions, stage programmes, feast celebrations etc.

SMMC has been successfully organizing indoor sports event from past consecutive five years and this year too, SMMC core committee under the guidance of spiritual director of SMMC, Fr Denis Saldanha, intending to make this first major venture of the organization of 2020 as a gratifying event of this year.

This year the popular sports event is a full day outdoor event, open only for Christians (any nationalities) UAE residents. This year 21 cricket teams (Men) and 6 volley ball teams (Men) from different emirates will be participating in the tournament. Attractive cash prizes and trophies will be presented to the winning teams and individuals too for their exceptional performance.

Event will start sharp at 7:00 am with registration process for teams followed by inauguration ceremony, briefing session for teams and thereafter at 7:20 am both cricket and volley ball tournaments will begin simultaneously. The event is expected to conclude at 5:30 pm, with closing/award ceremony.

SMMC welcomes all the members of Konkani community and their friends and families to witness and enjoy the spectacular event.
