Army remembers martyrs who eliminated Pulwama mastermind

Srinagar, Feb 18 (IANS): The Army remembered on Tuesday its four bravehearts on their first death anniversary, who were martyred while eliminating the mastermind of the Pulwama suicide attack on a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) convoy last year.

Forty CRPF men were killed after a Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) suicide bomber attacked their convoy at Letpora in Kashmir's Pulwama, 25 km from Srinagar on February 14 2019.

Last year on this day, an operation was conducted by the security forces to eliminate Kamran alias Ghazi Rasheed, the mastermind of the IED attack on the CRPF convoy.

Rasheed was a Pakistani militant and "chief operational commander" of the JeM.

An IED specialist, Rasheed had trained Adil Dar, the JeM terrorist who drove the explosive-laden vehicle into the CRPF convoy.

During the encounter four men of the Army -- Major Vibhuti Shankar Dhoundiyal, Sepoy Hari Singh, Havaldar Sheoram and Sepoy Ajay Kumar laid down their lives.

"Indian Army 18 Feb 2019.... The bravehearts fought valiantly, displayed exemplary courage; eliminated mastermind of cowardly Pulwama attack and made supreme sacrifice. The proud nation remembers the bravehearts," the Army's Northern command said in a tweet while paying tribute to its soldiers.

Srinagar based 15 corps Commander Lt. General K.J.S. Dhillon also tweeted: "They brought justice to Pulwama within 100 hours. Salute Fallen Comrades."
