Rahul respects Manmohan Singh, wanted clean politics: Cong

New Delhi, Feb 18 (IANS): The Congress has rejected former Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia's contention that then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh wanted to quit after Rahul Gandhi tore the Ordinance, proposed by the UPA government.

Congress chief Spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said, "We are not privy to conversation that took place between the two person (Singh and Ahluwalia), but we can say Rahul Gandhi has said he considered Manmohan Singh his guru. Thus, there is no question of disrespecting Singh."

Hailing Rahul Gandhi's vision, Surjewala said the Supreme Court had now asked the parties to place in the public domain the reason behind nominating a tainted person. "It vindicates Rahul Gandhi's stand," he said.

The Congress said when all the political parties were in agreement to go ahead with the Ordinance, Rahul Gandhi tried to change the course because he wanted "the Ganges of politics to be clean".

In an interview to IANS, Alhuwalia said Rahul Gandhi used strong words. "On hindsight, I think, Singh took the right call."

Explaining his reasoning, the ex-aide of Singh said had Rahul Gandhi been a member of the council of Ministers, things would have been different. "But he was the Vice-President of a political party," Ahluwalia said.

That the Congress leader kept Singh in the dark about his thinking, Ahluwalia quoted Rahul Gandhi saying the choice of words could have been better.

"You must realise, in a democracy, there is nothing wrong to have dissent within the party. I don't think there's much merit in running a party in a way where everyone in a party simply endorses the top leadership," he said.

AAP is the party of the future. No way RaGa , we have had enough, There is no scope for Congress revival any more at any level. You may win Wayanad with some 'setting' done with local Mosque leaders , but others wont. You will be soon stumped by minorities as well.

Rahulji. There are numerous videos, news clippings on how you respected MMS when you were ruling, Anyways Congress is gone boss . You would not have fled to Wayanad ,if it was not. . Today Cong is just a B team for some regional parties for survival. AAP has proved and will soon be an alternative for Cong to counter BJP in LS polls. AAP has already announced of going national. This is based on the large shift of supporters from Congress that includes minorities. If everything goes as per plan 2024 will be year of AAP.

Its high time that 'Gandhi's' voluntarily resign from the Congress and hand over the mantle to young guns like Scindia, Pilot etc. This is what other parties are doing with very good results.
With the emergence of AAP in Delhi and their decision to take on Punjab and go national with the 'freebie culture' thus posing as a strong opposition to BJP, Congress will soon be history.
