Buenos Aires, Feb 2 (IANS): Independiente have scored three first-half goals en route to a 5-0 rout of Rosario Central in the Argentinian Superliga.
Alexander Barboza, Leandro Fernandez and Braian Romero netted inside the first 40 minutes for the hosts before Silvio Romero and Andres Roa added two more goals after halftime, reports Xinhua news agency.
It was Independiente's first victory in six Superliga outings and kept them within eight points of leaders River Plate, who are due to host Central Cordoba on Sunday.
Rosario, who had not lost in six matches before Saturday dating back to October 29, remain four points behind River.
In other Superliga fixtures on Saturday, Estudiantes secured a 3-1 home victory over Union Santa Fe and Defensa drew 1-1 at Atletico Tucuman.
