Mangalore: Gear Up to Tickle Funny Bone with Tulu Tele Film 'Jokulatike'

Mangalore: Gear Up to Tickle Funny Bone with Tulu Tele Film 'Jokulatike'
Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (RS/SB)

Mangalore, Oct 14: It’s time for lovers of Tulu comical plays to get soaked in the very essence of Tulunadu humour in a different medium. Ahalya Productions as its presentation is out with a Tulu tele film Jokulatike, which is an out and out comedy fair and will be screened for the first time at the Town Hall here on Thursday October 15.

Though the medium to evoke laughter chosen is different, the comedy flavour for sure will remain the same with popular artistes from Tulu dramas being part of the project. The story is based on the subject of the need for harmony in the society. But, the genre used to depict the story has been comedy and sends across a social message to the viewers. The two-and-a-half hour tele film has been directed by M Saikrishna. He is a former member of Cha-parka team led by Devadas Kapikad, well known personality in the field of Tulu drama.

“The tele film has involvement of 150 artistes including Naveen D Padil and Bhojaraj Vamanjoor the popular and has been shot using a PD video camera suitable for screening through projectors and not in a film theatres or cinema halls. When we watched the final product we were satisfied with its production values, says Saikrishna. We are planning to screen it in the places of demand with a projector throughout this year and will come bring out a CD once we are able to recover production expenses, he added.

Saikrishna sharing his experience as a director says that it was a challenge to direct the actors of drama for a tele film. Most of the actors were acting for the first time in a tele film, says and adds that his directorial venture catches the attention and receives a great response from the Tulu comedy lovers.

Shashiraj Rao Kavoor, dramatist, film’s music director and lyricist, said that this is a commendable effort in a city like Mangalore, where there is shortage of film unit for the production of a film. The step by the team towards filling that shortage of efforts made to produce Tulu films should be noted as a historical effort. Tele film production will hopefully be a welcome substitute for Tulu fims, he adds.

Director Saikrishna has also written the story, screen play and dialogues of the tele film produced by Sudhir Kottari and Sathish Balmatta.
