Kadaba: Angry man splashes acid at sister-in-law's face

Kadaba, Jan 24: In an incident which happened at Kodimbala within the limits of the police station here on Thursday January 23 evening, a man threw acid at the face of his sister-in-law. The accused, Jayananda Kottary (55), resident of Kottary, stands arrested.

Jayananda is a farmer who also functions as life insurance agent. He threw acid used for making of rubber sheets at the face of Swapna (35), widow of his younger brother. Some of the acid also spilled on the daughter of the lady who was standing near her at the time. Both were provided with first aid at the Puttur government hospital before being admitted into a hospital at Mangaluru.

Swapna's husband, Ravi, is no more. Swapna lives separately with her three daughters. There is persisting dispute on finances between Jayananda and Swapna. There is also a long-standing land dispute between them, it is said. They had quarrelled many a time, and there were days when the fights were referred to police station.

The dispute had arisen again between them since Wednesday, culminating with throwing acid on Thursday evening. Kadaba police, who have arrested the accused, are questioning him. Kadaba sub-inspector police Rukma Naik, visited Mangaluru to obtain the affected lady's statement.
