Mangaluru: Chain snatcher held - Stolen ornaments worth Rs 12 lac recovered

Mangaluru, Jan 24: A person who was fleeing after snatching golden chain from the neck of women in the city was arrested by the personnel of Urwa police station here on Thursday January 23. The arrested accused has been identified as Vinaya Prasad alias Voinod Jogi (27) from Badaga Ulipady near Ganjimutt in this taluk.

A lone woman was walking on the road when the accused reportedly snatched away the golden chain she was wearing around her neck. When he was escaping, Urwa police chased and arrested him.

The police said that Jogi faces five cases in Urwa police station limits, two within Kavoor station limits ,one case in city(east) police station, one in Barke station and one in Kankanady urban station.

He had pledged gold ornaments which he had robbed from various places, and the police recovered 300 grams of ornaments worth Rs 12 lac. A motorbike and an auto rickshaw used for the said thefts were also seized. The total value of items seized from him has been put at Rs 14 lac.

Personnel of Urwa police station along with central anti rowdy squad led by Urwa police inspector K M Shariff, sub-inspector Vanajakshi, acted under the instructions of police deputy commissioner K Jagadish and directions of police commissioner Dr P S Harsha, participated.
