Mumbai: Two-day long Global Tulu conference concludes

Mumbai, Jan 21: The concluding programme of the two-day long Global Tulu conference at Kandivli concluded on Sunday January 19. Veteran author Dr Sunita M Shetty chaired the programme. North Mumbai Lok Sabha MP Gopal C Shetty was the chief guest.

Borivli MLA, Sunil Rane and entrepreneur, Thonse Jayakrishna Shetty were on the dais. MP Gopala Shetty released ‘Honganasu’ the work of well-known author, journalist Lata Santhosh Shetty.

“The government has failed to provide residential flat to Jaya S Shetty, Chaya J Shetty and Gaurav J Shetty, the father, mother and son who are known to the world through rural sports Kabaddi. The service of thousands of people like them is not recognized. Being a people's representative, it is my duty to bring such things in front of the government. Therefore, Tulu festivals should be held at least once a year especially in Borivli,” requested MP Gopal C Shetty to Thonse Vijayakumar Shetty and Ermal Harish Shetty. Sunil Rane said that he too will try to bring the matter to the attention of the government.



Dr Sunita M Shetty in her presidential address said that Tulu language became an orphan because the kings who ruled the land did not give shelter to it. “It is unfortunate that the Karnataka state government has failed to notice it.”

Kalajagathu Mumbai president Dr Thonse Vijayakumar Shetty, president Dr Surendra Kumar Hegde, vice-president Prabhaker Shetty, secretary Krishnaraj Suvarna, joint secretary Chandravati Devadiga and Lathesh M Poojary, treasurer Jagadish Rao, joint treasurer N Prathviraj Mundkoor and Ashok Shetty Pangala, Bombayid Tulunad committee president Ermal Harish Shetty, convener Shama N Shetty were on the dais. Kalajagathu president Dr Thonse Vijayakumar Shetty welcomed the gathering and introduced the felicities and guests. Kalajagathu president Dr Surendra Kumar Hegde and Navin Shetty Yedmemar compered the programme.

The second day’s programme began with bhajans by Borivli, Mira Bhayandar and Pune Bhajana Balagas. Vitla Pindi, Gopooje, Tulasi Pooje and other festivals were celebrated. Vidwan Kairabettu Vishwanath Bhat presented Harikathe, Vijaya Shetty Mira Road, Tulu Bhajans competitions, Tulunad artistes Padthana and dances.

Dr Bharath Kumar Polipu, Jayakar D Poojary, Ashok Pakkala, Damodar Iruvail, Surendra Kumar Hegde and Navin Shetty Yedmemar took part in the Tulu interaction. Chandravati Devadiga conducted the children’s festival.

Vasai Virar Tulu Balaga presented Tulu Porlu programme and Sachin Poojary Bhivandi Balaga Tulunada vaibhava. Tulu Janapada troupe performed dances; Kalajagathu child artistes performed ‘Sudhanna Moksha’ Yakshagana play. Kalajagathu artistes enacted ‘E Bale Nammavu’ Tulu drama written by Thonse Vijayakumar Shetty. Krishnaraj Suvarna rendered the vote of thanks.
