Mangaluru: Theft of ornaments, laptop - 2 arrested, two others escape

Mangaluru, Jan 19: Police personnel attached to Ullal station have succeeded in arresting two persons, one of whom is facing several cases of thefts committed by him in the past. They have been accused of stealing gold ornaments from houses and also a laptop belonging to an Infosys employee. These arrests were made on Saturday January 18. The police have recovered 60 grams of gold ornaments and a laptop from the arrested accused.

The arrested persons have been identified as Muhammed Kabir Tasleem alias Tasleem (21) from Madani Nagar in Munnur village, and Muhammeed Haris alias Achi (23) from Sundari Bagh in Ullal. Two other accused, identified as Anwr from Puttur and Siyal from Madani Nagar succeeded in fleeing.

The accused reportedly stole golden Karimani chain, a gold chain and ring from the residence of Uday Kumar staying in a rented home behind Koragajjana Katte at Kuthar during November 19 last. They again stole gold chain, rope chain, bangles, and earrings from the house of Yatish Kumar residing near the mosque at Subhashnagar here. The value of ornaments stolen here runs into lacs of rupees. On January 16, they stole a laptop belonging to Karan Bhardwaj, employed in Infosya Ltd and living in Shruti Nilaya Apartments on Bagambila Road.

Complaints about thefts were registered in Ullal police station. Tasleem, one of the accused, also faces complaints of murder attempt of an auto rickshaw driver, damaging of a car, conspiring to rob, theft etc. Mihammed Haris has been accused of damaging a car.

The operation to arrest the thieves was conducted by Gurappa Kanti and Vinayaka Toragal, police sub-inspectors of Ullal station under the leadersip of Ullal police circle inspector, Anil Kumar H R, and guidance of city (south) sub-division assistant commissioner of police, T Kodandarama and instructions of deputy commissioners of police, Arunamshugiri and Laxmi Ganesh as per the directions of city police commissioner, Dr P S Harsha and support of other subordinate police personnel.
