Love to see Bangladeshi immigrant become next CEO of Infosys: Nadella on CAA

New Delhi, Jan 14 (IANS): Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has joined the debate on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), saying whatever is happening in India on this new legislation is just bad.

Talking to editors in Manhattan on Monday, Nadella who hails from Hyderabad and became the Microsoft CEO in 2014, said he would like immigrants to come and set up startups in India.

"I think what is happening is sad...It's just bad...I would love to see a Bangladeshi immigrant who comes to India and creates the next unicorn in India or become the next CEO of Infosys," tweeted Ben Smith, editor-in-chief of buzzfeednews.com, who asked Microsoft CEO about the CAA at the meeting.

Later, Microsoft India issued a statement on behalf of Nadella.

"Every country will and should define its borders, protect national security and set immigration policy accordingly. And in democracies, that is something that the people and their governments will debate and define within those bounds," said the India-born CEO.

"I'm shaped by my Indian heritage, growing up in a multicultural India and my immigrant experience in the United States. My hope is for an India where an immigrant can aspire to find a prosperous start-up or lead a multinational corporation benefitting Indian society and the economy at large," Nadella added.

The CAA seeks to provide Indian nationality to Hindus, Christians, Sikhs, Parsis, Jains and Buddhists fleeing persecution in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh on or before December 31, 2014.

As per the Act, such communities will not be treated as illegal immigrants and will be given Indian citizenship.

The legislation, which has come into force from January 10, has led to intense protests across the country since December when the legislation was passed by Parliament, with students coming out on the streets in thousands in almost all the states. Civil society members, opposition parties and commoners have also joined the protests.

Simple question... Would he employ an illegal immigrant?..

The question is who is a persecuted immigrant and who is a wishful illegal immigrant. Its sad that such people sitting far away in Silicon Valley don't understand the national security implications of this illegal immigration.

Though I think Microsoft realized the goof up and issued a matured statement.

Job for illegal BD immigrants in Microsoft ? , Is Nadela crazy? The world is witnessing the results of hosting these immigrants from certain countries who chose to flee to non-Islamic destinations. Every country has turned out to be a issue. If he starts recruiting illegal BDs, soon Microsoft will have to be renamed as 'Banglasoft' .
Trump will soon boot Nadela and his ideas out,

Yes. if the minorities you mentioned are persecuted on the basis of religion , they may be given citizenship in India. Muslim illegal immigrants from BD, Pak etc will be deported. The logic is , why should they leave a Islamic Country and come to India, a country were Muslims as minority and create havoc here.? similar to what they have done and doing in Europe /US/UK etc,?

Discrimination because they came because of fear and had no where to go.

Unfortunately we cannot change our neighbors or their mentality. Only thing we can do is support those persecuted by our neighborhood.

Afghan - from 10% dropped to almost zero
    Pak - from 15% to 2%
    B'desh - from 25 % to 7%

The context and manner in which he said it makes it sound silly. It's as if India will be seen as a great country only if a Bangladeshi immigrant is given opportunity in India to prosper and gets a high position like that of a CEO in Infosys.

Looks like SatyaNadella is a bit embarrassed by the way he came across at the interview that his company now has put out an official statement by him as some sort of clarification.

We would love to see Microsoft opening job opportunities to illegal immigrants. Let them open a training centre and give them jobs.

They are software giant and can definitely afford it.

Here Satya Nadella was speaking about CAA. Indirectly he was referring to those talented people in our neighbouring countries who are suppressed simply because of their religion.

read CAA. its only for illegal immigrants of particular religion are kept out because they are majority and not subject to religious persecution in those neighbouring countries.

talented individuals from any country and religion can still come officially as per rules anyway..

    Mr. Suresh,
Talented and highly skilled professionals from minority communities in Pakistan and Bangladesh are stilled suppressed and prevented from coming up in these countries. In Kuwait I have personally heard about the plight of such people from a Pakistani of the minority community. And Nadella was indirectly referring to such people who will be benefited from CAA in the long run.

Read carefully "Every country will and should define its borders, protect national security and set immigration policy accordingly. And in democracies, that is something that the people and their governments will debate and define within those bounds," said the India-born CEO.

Which means India should make a strong immigration policy not allow immigrants sneak through its border fences but come to India with a valid work visa. Not stone pelting immigrants but immigrants who are secular... btw one of three founders of YouTube was a Bangladeshi immigrant..

    Dear Sathya,
We too would be happy if they come from the front door and not the Back door. India is not a rich country like America, we are allready over populated country. we will soon become worlds most populous country. A country with 2% of the worlds land mass holding 20 % of the planets population is far too high. Hindus in US have assimilated with American culture. . The Hindus beleive in too many Gods and adding a jesus or Gurunanak wont be difficult at all. They will never talk of one true religion and will not impose their culture on the unbeleivers.

Sir, It is not like flood gates are open for minorities of theocratic countries. it is to give citizenship to all those who have lived here beofre 2014. These people allready are in India. Besides the minority population in these countries have significantly come down. The minorities of these countries who are staying in India dont multiply fast. if such a thing happens it will burden the allready overpopulated country like India. In Pakisthan the persecuted muslims are mainly Shias, Ahmeddiyyas and to some extent baluchis. If india allows persecuted among muslims will you be OK with CAA?. i am dead sure the sunnis will get more infuriated than the current CAA.
