Bengaluru: New Year - 15% more sale of alcoholic drinks, state Excise dept earns Rs 597 crore

Bengaluru, Jan 2: The sales of liquor in the state of Karnataka registered a steep increase in the wake of the New Year celebration. Compared to last year there is an increase of 10 to 15% increase in the sales of alcoholic drinks. The Excise department of the state has earned a revenue of Rs 597 crore due to the increase of sales.

The 10 to 15 % increase is noticed while comparing the sales of December 21 to 31 of 2018 to that of the corresponding period of 2019. In 2018, during the same period, the Excise department had earned a revenue of Rs 481 crore while in 2019 it has earned Rs 597 crore.

In the meantime, city police commissioner Bhaskar Rao has informed that 426 cases are booked for drunken driving and violating the traffic rules under the influence of alcohol during New Year's Eve.
