Udupi: Dr Shiran Shetty appointed visiting faculty to Austria, awarded with ESGE fellowship

Udupi, Dec 25: Dr Shiran Shetty, professor and head, department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, has been appointed as visiting/adjunct faculty to Elizabethen Orden Klinikum teaching hospital in Austria LINZ and was awarded ESGE fellowship in advanced endoscopy for 2019.

Department of gastroenterology and Hepatology of Kasturba Medical College and Hospital Manipal will be collaborating with Austrian hospital for research and learning new innovative endoscopic procedures from now onwards.

During his fellowship at Austria, he was trained in advanced endoscopic procedures like Endoscopic sub-mucosal dissection, ESD, new tunneling procedures like POEM, G POEM. Enodultrasound guided pancreatic necrosectomy, drainage and treatment of various GI cancers. These are new innovative procedures in the field of gastroenterology and also less invasive and patient friendly. Dr Avinash Shetty, Medical Superintendent said, “At Kasturba Hospital Manipal, department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology is planning to provide these newer endoscopic advanced treatment to the patient at a very affordable cost.”
