Mangaluru: FASTags mandatory from Dec 15, but many vehicles yet to acquire it

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Dec 14: The toll plazas in the coastal region have geared themselves up to implement mandatory FASTags from midnight of December 15. But over 50 percent of vehicles moving on the highway are yet to acquire them.

Although FASTags are available in many bank branches and online, immediate delivery is not happening in many cases for want of enough stock. Those who buy online also are not getting FASTag stickers immediately, although they get message about dispatch.

Those who buy FASTags at toll booths get them quickly. PayTM has distributed FASTags at Suratkal toll booth even on Friday. Even though the government had said that FASTags would be supplied by national highways authority free of cost, nothing of this sort has happened.

The toll booths, in addition to making preparations to receive toll charges through FASTags, have also beefed up police security as initial hiccups are possible. Talapady toll gate manager, Shiivaprasad Rai, said that manual scanner also would be kept ready for use in case of technical snag. Number of people manning the toll gates has been increased and direction boards are being fixed. CCTV cameras of all the gates have direct connection to technical department of union ministry of surface transport.

Project director of National Highways Authority of India, Shishu Mohan, said that so far there is no information of any extension of date for implementation of FASTags. At the same time, confusion over allowing locals vehicles free access continues, even though the officials say that they will allow vehicles after verifying vehicles registration certificates and local address proof.

What a apathy? The So called rubbish National Highway dept, not capable of maintaining good highways but loot money from vehicle owner in hook or crook. During registration have to pay road tax, now in the name of highway modernization pay toll tax. Will Toll authority advise us where the fast tags are available? No banks are seems to be interested to sell it out as it is additional pain full task as informed by number of Bank personnel around Mangalore and Udupi. Only option to buy it from on line. Every alternate day receive SMS as "delivery fast tag has been rescheduled" IF the dept not capable to provide the tag on time, why they have put dead liner to fix it by vehicle owners?

i had travelled to mantralaya last week. First 40 Rs deducted from my paytm, while return journey again Rs 40 deducted from my paytm wallet. Total Rs.80 deducted. But actual toll fare for return journey is Rs.55. I had been mailed my walltet statement and details to paytm helpline. Still no response. Simply looting the people.

I got fasttag in 2 days via SBI. People should not give lame excuses, fast tag saves time and provides additional safety also. The govt will get exact toll collection details, if toll exceeds limit for 3 convective month, they will reduce the charge.....now cash transactions are being misused and actual collection is not reflected.

Are you a regular high way/ expressway user? If yes, what were the reasons you have delayed the process of getting the Fastag?
