Bengaluru, Dec 13: The state government has decided against adopting the social and economic survey report prepared by Karnataka State Backward Classes Commission, which had given rise to lot of heat in political circles. At the cabinet meeting held on Thursday December 12 where this was listed in the agenda, the government clarified its stand without even taking up the issue for discussion.

The government feels that this report is unscientific as there are no accurate data and statistics about the caste system in the state and financial condition of these families. The survey was conducted by the said commission at the instance of the state government led by Siddaramaiah in 2014. The commission had collected information by arranging door to door visits and the survey was spread over 55 points including caste, employment, family, fixed and movable properties etc.

Siddaramaiah government could not adopt the report on account of certain obstacles. Later, after the assembly election, coalition government took over. It did not make an attempt to touch the report. The chairman of the commission was ready to submit the report to the current government, but the government truncated the tenure of chairman and members of the commission on September 22. As such, the report remained with the commission secretary.

It was said that the report, which was prepared at a cost of Rs 158 crore, could bring out caste-wise calculations of every constituency, and political calculations and results may get hit. Many had opposed leaking of the report. Some said that the staff deputed for the work had not actually visited the houses and had filled information at their own will. The officials wanted to publish information about each family in its website based on this report, and they had sought cabinet nod for using information provided in the report. But the cabinet did not accept this proposal. Ministers pointed out that the previous government had not adopted this report after getting it prepared.
