Mangaluru: Talents galore at St Aloysius College animation competition 'Sparkle'

Mangaluru, Dec 11: The department of Computer Science, Application and Animation, St Aloysius College (Autonomous) organized a national level seminar on December 10 at the L F Rasquinha Hall, LCRI block which was inaugurated by the chief guest Dr K V Rao, director, Pilikula Regional Science Centre, Mangaluru.

Fr Dr Praveen Martis, SJ, principal, presided over the programme. Dr A M Narahari, registrar, Dr Dennis Fernandes, director of the admin block, Satish Nayak, convenor of the seminar, Ashok M Prasad, dean of BCA, Prithwi and Abel Shaju, the student convenors were present on the dais.



Dr K V Rao, in his speech, said, “It is necessary to find out what the younger generation wants to do in their future. Animation is a good initiative to find one’s potential and timely technology intervention is the need of the hour. Animation is one of the fastest-growing technologies in India today, which is found to be effective and communicative in various fields like education, architecture visualization, entertainment, web designing etc.

Fr Dr Praveen Martis, SJ, in his presidential remarks, applauded the department for organizing such a unique seminar with a wonderful theme: Sparkle 2019. "The future of the younger generation is technology and today, we communicate only through technology. But before using communication, one must think of what to communicate." He urged the students to create a healthy world using animation.

Dr Dennis Fernandes in his speech said that animation is a great technology which has emerged recently. He advised the students not to use the Apps created by somebody instead, he suggested to create their Apps.

During the programme, there were three technical sessions by Vinci Raj, CEO, creative director, Bengaluru on the topic 'Creating Art & Creativity', Jesudas Lobo, software engineer, Robosoft Technologies, Udupi, on the topic 'Game Design and Developmental Concepts' and Prajwal Vas, CEO and founder of Plangle Studio on the topic 'Production Etiquette 101'.

Besides, Sparkle provided a platform for students, animators and artists to showcase their talents through various competitions. Some of the competitions like Video Ad Making, Pencil Sketching and Poster Designing were conducted.

Dr Alwyn D’Sa, controller of examinations, Navin Mascarenhas, IQAC coordinator, Dr John D’Silva, director of Xavier Block, Santosh Notagar, the organizing secretary and Dr Ravindra Swamy, HOD of BCA were present during the programme.

Around 400 students and staff of various institutions attended the programme and made ‘Sparkle 2019’ a grand success.

Ashok M Prasad welcomed the gathering. The vote of thanks was delivered by Sathish Nayak.
