Kundapur, Dec 6: “Work done for people gives more happiness and joy than the work done as people representatives. Those who remain with people and respond to their needs become real people representatives,” opined former Member of Parliament K Jayaprakash Hegde. He was speaking in discussion meeting held by Kundapur working journalist’s association in Kundapur on Thursday, December 5.

“I have the satisfaction of tabling private bill on voting, voting rights for primary and high school teachers in teacher’s constituency, speaking on session 371(J) conducive for the development of north Karnataka and alternative arrangement for petty shops while I was the Lok Sabha member. Nobody would have spoken if the fly over work on Shastri Circle had got over within the special time period. Projects should be planned keeping in mind the next fifty years. I had obtained permission from the center for additional proposals on four lane work from Padubidri to Kundapur when I was the MP. Everybody has the responsibility of completing the works on time,” he added.

“If fair minded officials make the governments understand the works, there will be quick response. Permanent solutions for sand and deemed forest are inevitable here. Sensitive area is identified in Mookambika sanctuary. A notification is issued for Kuduremukha and Someshwar forest calling for public complaints,” he said.

“Certain concessions were allowed in CRZ area in the gazette notification by the union government in August 2018. The matter is informed to three deputy commissioners in the coastal region. If removal of sand is decided in the basement of bridge and dam, people in the coastal area will benefit. An appeal is submitted to the government for five residential schools at the rate of one for every district at an approximate cost of Rs 40 crores. SC/ST and backward class students will benefit by them. There is a provision for CET and other competitive examinations training here. There should be uniform consideration for those who stand in Q for sand. The weight and the registration number of the vehicle will be recorded,” he informed.

“It is necessary to discuss issues of Varahi project, Brahmavar sugar factory and drainage. There will be legal hassles if four lane road tender is cancelled and new tender is invited. An airport in Byndoor will be helpful for Udupi and North Kanara district. A plan to develop tourism is necessary. An alternative road should be stressed in the coast to reduce traffic density on the national highway. It is better to provide opportunities to district residents to solve local problems soon,” he said.

“I desire to contest in next elections. The days when I was independent MLA twice have provided me immense joy providing opportunities to serve people,” he concluded.

Kundapur working journalist’s association president Shashidhar Hemmady and Secretary Nagaraja Rayappan were present.
