Mangaluru, Dec 5: A ‘Lamp lighting and oath-taking ceremony’ of the 18th batch of GNM and 16th batch of BSc Nursing students was held on December 5 at the college auditorium.

Sharlet D'Souza, associate professor, child health nursing welcomed the gathering while Nishel Barboza, assistant professor, medical surgical nursing explained the significance of the day.

One hundred and thirty-three student nurses received the light from Sr Dhanya Devasia, the principal, Sr Janet D’Souza, CNO Fr Muller Medical College Hospital, Mangaluru, Dr Sr Alphonsa Ancheril, vice-principal, Winni Crasta, nursing superintendent of Athena Hospital, Sunitha D'Souza, associate professor and HOD of community health nursing and Genevieve Serrao, faculty fundamentals of nursing, followed by oath-taking to practice their profession with responsibility.

The occasion was graced by the dignitaries on the dais R S Shettian, chairman, Sr Janet D’Souza, CNO Fr Muller Medical College Hospital, Mangaluru- Chief guest, Asha Shettian, secretary, Sr Dhanya Devasia, Dr Sr Alphonsa Ancheril and Winni Crasta, nursing superintendent of Athena Hospital.

The chief guest, Sr Janet D’Souza advised the students to care for their patients with a good attitude and explained the expanded meaning of nurse. She also stressed on the importance of living the pledge of nurses in reality. Melita Lewis and Edna Lavita, assistant lecturers of the Medical Surgical Nursing department compered the programme. Jasmine Priya, assistant lecturer of Community Health Nursing department proposed the vote of thanks.
