Supreme Court grants bail to Chidambaram in INX Media case

New Delhi, Dec 4 (IANS): The Supreme Court on Wednesday, December 4, granted bail to senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram in a case registered by the Enforcement Directorate in the INX Media scam.

A bench headed by Justice R. Banumathi said that the Congress leader will not make any public statements regarding the INX Media case, and also make no attempt to intimidate the witnesses in the case.

The apex court has also imposed conditions on the bail -- Chidambaram's passport will remain confiscated, and he will not be allowed to leave the country without permission, he will give no interviews to the press, and he will also make himself available for interrogation in the matter.

The court directed Chidambaram to deposit bail bonds of Rs 2 lakh with two sureties subject to satisfaction of the special judge hearing the case. The top court observed that the bail order will not have any effect on action against other accused in the case.

The apex court also ordered the Registry to return the sealed covers submitted to the bench by the ED on the last day of the hearing, containing evidence connected to the case. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal appearing for Chidambaram asked the court asked for certified copy of the order to produce before the special judge conducting the trial of the INX Media case on Wednesday.

The apex court observing the gravity of the economic offences said that bail is the rule and jail the exception, and Chidambaram had already spent many days in custody of the ED.

According to PC not a single charge is framed against him since 106 days in prison. Then why did the Govt humiliate him by putting him in prison? PC being a SC lawyer and a former Central Minister is a polished and respected politician.

With the present condition he could have been given bail long back. It is very sad if Govt is right it took very long period to punish him. It is very ridiculous to accept statement ofm/s Indrani whose behavior change very frequently. If Chidmbaram is not guilty all the persons involved in this process to be punished by

ED lies are nailed once again. After 100 days in custody, ED still groping for some case to nail PC. Clearly harassment by Feku-Daku duo is the objective.

Economic offenses always goes with the evidences. If evidences are already available with the agencies and are secured, then where on earth, any one can destroy them, when not in power?

Agencies are making a joke of themselves and at the same time Modi Govt., as well. Is Modi Govt., is saying they are incompetent and unable to protect the material evidences, already secured by them?
If so, they better say it - loud and clear, so that the bhakths, hear it.

Chidambaram is ACCUSED of money laundering for about Rs. 3lakh. Accusation laid down by a lady, who killed her own daughter and trying to find a way out of jail. Further, when one gets to the money part, this is take away amount for any constable or govt servant posted in Bangalore every month as bribe.

Modi Govt., since been unable to handle economy, they want to fix someone who done that job marvelously and do not wish to join BJP. Simple and straight.
