Panaji: HC restrains civic body from razing Baina shacks

Daijiworld Media Network - Panaji (SR)

Panaji, Dec 4: The high court of Bombay at Goa restricted the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) from razing Baina beach shacks.

To avoid the MMC’s recent attempts to demolish the process of erecting beach shacks, operators who were allotted shacks on Baina beach through the lottery system, had approached the high court alleging that the MMC had been making attempts to demolish their structures without issuing any notice.

The operators also alleged that the MMC’s attempt had been interfering in the process despite them being granted permission by the tourism department.

The high court, in its directive, said, "We restrain Mormugao Municipal Council from undertaking any further demolition or even otherwise interfering with the petitioners putting up temporary beach shacks in pursuance of permissions granted to them by the department of tourism.”
