Bengaluru, Dec 4: State health minister B Sriramulu has instructed district health officers against taking action on Ayursh or Ayurveda doctors who have been found providing allopathic treatment to patients.

The Supreme Court has said that doctors should treat the patients as per the medical courses they have undergone. But because of shortage of allopathic practitioners, Ayush doctors are permitted to provide allopathic treatment at the basic level in Karnataka. The government is in discussions on the practicability of extending the permission to all Ayush doctors to provide allopathic treatment. He therefore has directed the officers not to act against the Ayush doctors just because they are giving allopathic treatments.

The minister said that the doctors who have allopathic medical degrees are not showing interest to provide services in rural areas, whereas Ayush doctors are prepared for the same. He noted that the government Ayush doctors have studied basic things of allopathic medicine and are experienced enough to identify the ailments through laboratory and other tests and provide treatments to the people. Therefore the minister has asked the officers to allow the Ayush doctors to continue to provide allopathic treatments,

The minister pointed out that Ayush doctors have been permitted to provide allopathic treatment in 12 states.
