Mangaluru, Nov 21: St Aloysius College Primary School, Kodialbail witnessed the annual Sports Day on November 20 at the Gonzaga Stadium where the athletes assembled.

The chief guest of the day was Dafnal Concessao – A prominent musician. He was escorted by the rector – Fr Dionysius Vaz SJ, Fr Gerald Furtado SJ - Correspondent, Philomena Lewis - Headmistress, Arvind K Rao - Vice-president of the PTA.

The headmistress - Philomena Lewis formally welcomed the guests and the gathering.



This was followed by the unfurling of the school flag. A spectacular march-past by the four houses, scouts and cubs was witnessed by a large number of audience followed by a general salute by the chief guest.

The state-level winners and the district level winners took part in the rally by lighting the torch.

The sports day was inaugurated and declared open by the chief guest. All the dignitaries then released the balloons to mark their expression of joy.

Oath taking was represented by Srithan Shetty and the house leaders.

The most enthralling event was the splendid field display by the students of std V.

Dafnal Concessao, an old student of the school recalled the memories of his childhood and was delighted to be part of the day after many years. In his message he suggested that the athletes give 100% dedication and become priceless diamonds for the future, alternatively to be a winner to themselves. Students should balance their time between academics and sports.

Rector, Fr Dionysius Vaz said that students must have a desire, vision, skill and determination. Their will should be stronger than their skill. The stamina inside the students must help to develop their full potential, dedication and determination to achieve their goal in life. He appreciated the hard work of the students for making the day's event a grand success.

Fr Gerald Furtado, the correspondent appreciated the team spirit and the meticulous work by the members of the staff.

The students of std V displayed bamboo and ribbon dance.

The much-awaited track and field events began witnessed by the enthusiastic parents who gathered in large numbers to applaud the participants.

The closing ceremony was held in the evening. The chief guest was Rupesh Kumar, an advocate. The Sports Day was declared closed by the chief guest. The school flag was then brought down respectfully and handed over to the headmistress. Certificates and medals were given away by the chief guest, parents, teachers to the winners.

The winners of the relay of std V - VII, were awarded medals by the chief guest followed by announcement of the highest house points and handing over the trophy to the house. Individual champions were honoured trophies.

The inaugural ceremony was anchored by Celestine Vaz while the closing was compered by Padmanabhan. Vote of thanks was proposed by Anitha Pinto and Prakash Dsouza.

The credit goes to Arun Baptist and Harish Kulal, the physical educators of the institute for making the Sports Day successful.

The meet concluded with the National Anthem.
