Mangaluru, Nov 19: A week after Gilbert D’Souza, a well-known businessman and philanthropist, closed potholes in the city roads to help road users, he again appeared with team members of Indian Service Club in the roads of city to repair potholes on Tuesday, November 19.

He started his mission from Ambedkar (Jyothi) Circle and then proceeded towards Milagres and State bank. Gilbert himself arranged a backhoe, a tipper lorry, sand and interlocks for undertaking repair of the potholes. Traffic police and Traffic wardens also have been helping him by regulating traffic as and when found necessary for the ongoing repair work on at road.

Police commissioner Dr P S Harsha also visited the spot and appreciated the leadership skills of Gilbert and hailed his concern towards the city. He instructed police to do all arrangements needed by the team.

The members of a civic group and traffic police personnel also joined him and appreciated the initiative he took to keep city roads in good condition.

Speaking to Daijiworld, Gilbert said “Last week we repaired a few roads of the city. After that many voluntarily came to me and expressed their desire to join me. By this I came to know there are so many people who have concern for their city. Today we all came together and started to repair roads."

"As active and responsible citizens, we are doing this. We know about the working style of our administration. So let’s focus on avoiding accidents and saving lives. We should take swift action. I think if citizens of the city take up the initiative, within a day, we can close all potholes on our city roads.

“I thank all members of Indian Service Club and Civic Group who joined with me voluntarily. Police department has also been helping us a lot. My special thanks to traffic police department and police commissioner of the city. There is no doubt in that when we all come together with to work collectively and think for the betterment of our city. There is no doubt that our city will become smart without any artificial branding,” he said.

Stany Suvaris, Lancy Menezes, Arjun, Aloysius Albuquerque, Vincent D'Silva and others actively participated for the success of the mission.

Truly amazing. People shoild learn from him and not relay on the government to do everything, not because they cannot but they are hopeless. I truly appreciate such work done for humanitarian reasons and not monetary benefits. Now of rhe government decides to share or bear the cost of repairs, that would ve surprising and we as Samaritan's of the biggest democracy in the world are really eager to learn. Hats off to this Gentleman and the club along with its members.

Kudoos to Mr. Gilbert and team. As we know there are so many organizations and associations in Manglore why can’t they adopt the area for to maintain road and cleanliness? As per this news repaired potholes near Ambedkar Circle. Likewise in a comment I read about Muller’s. There are some popular organizations that can come forward to support financially do this kind of work even school and college admins can participate with the help of parents. (Present generation parents don’t want their children to go for such kind of service.) Once in a month if everyone comes out from their house to do this kind of act will make our city clean and smart and everyone can be a leader to question to elected politicians. As of now politicians are more surrounded by photographers ... voters have to see them only on TV , newspaper.

Indeed this is a very fruitful theme. It is reported by press now again about accidental deaths. These accidents are caused by rash driving but also because of bad roads. It is good to see Gilbert D'Souza taking keen interest in fulfilling the obligation to the people of Mangalore and to The City of Mangalore. While on the subject of reaching out to people and service to people I have no hesitation in mentioning the names to two more persons who try to reach out and they are Nisir and Arjun who seem to go all OUT to render service to THE PEOPLE OF MANGALORE AND THE CITY OF MANGALORE.

I join scores of people in saying kudos to Gilbert, Nasir and Arjun.

FINALLY THE PERSON BEHIND THE RELENTLESS SERVICE IS NO OTHER THAN MR. MICHAEL D'SOUZA. MAY HE BE BLESSED AND MAY HIS FAMILY BE BLESSED

It is indeed a great initiative. Alert and concerned mind cannot go on observing lacunae around. Gilbert's work is an apt reminder to the government. It is a wake up call to the powers that be. it takes so many months to repair a single pothole till a accident takes place and life is lost. Government should not fail its people in this way. Thanks Gilbert for taking up the initiative. May your efforts bear fruits.

Great job sir but in my point of view you are spoiling our political leaders. Recently MCC elections took place and most 99% candidates wrote on their campaign handbills that their first priority is repairing roads and closing potholes.
Since you are a well known business man and know the big people in m'lore why can't you make the concerned MCC candidates to take up their task?

Concern towards the society by Gilbert is appreciable.
But my opinion is that should not do anything for the public property, if Individuals do like this concerned authorities eat our tax money and enjoy. How the govt spending the money received Toll, High Fuel Rates other taxes? Any account? Life of the common public is like hell now.

Hi, you are right at some stage but

Gilbert's purpose is different, due to these path holes, some families already lost their sole bread winner. Hence he is neglecting Government negligence and helping all of us. He should have stood for election to make a difference.

Better to use gravel of 6mm or less instead of sand. Sand will not withstand pressure of heavy vehicles on these roads and will get damaged soon.
