Nirmal Singh removed as J&K Speaker

Srinagar, Nov 17 (IANS): The Jammu and Kashmir administration has brought an end to the tenure of BJP leader Nirmal Singh as the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly through a notification.

The new administration headed by Lieutenant Governor G.C. Murmu has issued the notification.

The notification read,"...Singh, speaker of the Legislative Assembly of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir shall be deemed to have ceased to hold the office of speaker of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir with effect from 31st October, 2019."

It was issued by the Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs on Saturday.

Singh continued as the Speaker even after J&K was split into two Union Territories. The National Panthers Party (NPP) earlier questioned Singh's continuation despite the dissolution of the Assembly.
