Udupi, Nov 15: Indian Society of Blood transfusion and Immunohematology (ISBTI) Institutional award is presented to the Transfusion Medicine Center which delivers best quality clinical services, and has established innovative ideas, performs scientific research work in the field of transfusion medicine. ISBTI awarded the Institutional Award 2019 to the Department of Immunohematology and Blood transfusion, Kasturba Medical College (KMC) Manipal, for the excellent work in the field of Transfusion Medicine. The award was presented during the National conference TRANSCON 2019 at Jalandar, Punjab.
The dedication and hard work of the blood bank staff and the contribution from large pool of voluntary blood donors has helped us in strengthening the blood bank services in our hospitals, said medical superintendent of Kasturba Hospital Dr Avinash Shetty.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Shamee Shastry, Professor and Head of the department said, “The department has established state of the art Immunohematology lab, donor, and therapeutic apheresis, provides specialized blood products and involved in patient blood management. The team is now working on the establishing regional rare donor registry, developing goal based massive transfusion protocol and prevention of transfusion transmissible infections.”
Dean Dr Sharath K Rao said, “Over the last ten years there has been tremendous change in the field of transfusion medicine and the department at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal strives to achieve excellence in teaching and in providing clinical transfusion services.”
Dr Poornima Baliga, pro-vice chancellor of faculty of health sciences, congratulated the entire team.
