Goa government undertakes to fit digitalmeters in taxis from Dec 4

Panaji, Nov 15: The government of Goa has told the High court of Bombay at Goa on Thursday that digital meters will be fitted in taxis from December 4 on a pilot basis. The Court which has recorded the statement by Devidas Pangam, advocate general, will be monitoring the progress in the next hearing on December 5.

Rajan Satardekar, director of transport apologized unconditionally to the high court for delay in fitting digital fare meters in taxis saying that the government has decided to continue with the existing process of tender.

A contempt petition was filed by the travel and tourism association of Goa over failure by the director of transport to comply with the court order of July 5. Satardedar attributed the failure to stick to time limit to practical difficulties and the events that followed.

Satardekar said that Goa Electronics Limited sought details of taluk-wise registration of passenger taxis, fare rates and other details of the taxis which will be covered.
