On Monday night, Vetrivel complained of chest pain. Following which he was shifted to a local hospital in Alangudi by his grandsons and great-grandsons. But, unfortunately, Vetrivel was pronounced dead on arrival by the doctors. Reacting to the news of her husband's death, Pichayi broke down. The family brought back Vetrivel's mortal remains to Kuppakkudi for the relatives to pay their last respects.

“Our grandma cried before our grandfather’s body and fainted. We tried to revive her, but she did not respond. So, we called a local doctor to check her pulse. The doctor confirmed that our grandma was no more, less than an hour after our grandfather died,” said L Kumaravel, one of the grandsons of the couple.

The couple is survived by five sons and one daughter, 23 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
