One dead, 6 injured as two cars collide in Goa

Panaji, Nov 12: "One man died and six people were injured when two cars collided head-on at Vanxem, Loutolim, in the wee hours of Monday morning," said the police.

57- year- old Francisco Fernandes died on the spot. Police said the mishap took place at around 3 am when the driver of one of the speeding cars lost control over the wheel.

Fernandes, a resident of Panchwadi, Ponda, was heading towards the Goa International Airport, Dabolim, to pick up his son who was due to arrive from abroad. Meanwhile, Amar Naik, another Ponda resident, tried to overtake the vehicle ahead of him and rammed into Fernandes’ car.

The fellow passengers in Fernandes’ car sustained injuries and were discharged after preliminary treatment.

Amar Naik and other occupants of his car sustained injuries and were admitted to different hospitals. The Maina-Curtorim police have booked an offence against Naik under IPC Sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 304A (causing death by negligence).
