BJP takes credit for Ayodhya verdict, VHP says 'It's the beginning'

New Delhi, Nov 9 (IANS): Even as the government insisted that the Supreme Court judgement on Ayodhya should not be seen as victory or defeat by anyone, the ruling BJP did not shy away from giving some credit subtly to the Modi dispensation over the Ram temple issue, saying its tenure "will be written in golden letters".

In a statement issued by BJP Working President J.P. Nadda, the party said, "The temple issue has been resolved during the NDA government led by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi".

While welcoming the verdict, the statement said the BJP has "always been committed to the construction of the Ram temple. From Palampur resolution till date, BJP has played sincere and positive role on this issue and performed all its responsibilities."

It went on to add, "Whenever the history of the country will be re-written, this tenure of the Bharatiya Janata Party government at the Centre will be written in golden letters."

Ram temple has been one of the core issues of the BJP and has been part of its election manifesto since 1989.

Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) which has been spearheading the Ram temple movement, too made its intentions clear.

"About Kashi and Mathura, I must make it clear -- the Supreme Court judgement is not the end of the story but the beginning of it," said VHP's International Working President Alok Kumar, hours after the apex court gave its verdict on the contentious Ayodhya title dispute case.

Talking about the "consciousness of the society", Kumar stressed the priority however will remain the construction of a grand Ram Temple for now.

But the fact the powerful saffron outfit, an affiliate of the RSS, talked about a "beginning" suggests the VHP is likely to pursue the temple cause of Mathura and Kashi, where a dispute similar to Ayodhya exists.

Interesting to see who the government inducts as "TRUSTEE". VHP since years have been collecting so much wealth in the name of Ayodhya and now the SC has put onus on the Govt.

Look at these people's intention... It means more worse to happen, this is not the end... Evil will never die unless Almighty God show His supreme power..

By the way not everytime there attain a peace after one sided judgement, when. Intact no punishment was provided to those who destroyed the Mosque irrespective of Supreme Court saying it was worst thing to happen. Also said that there is no proof to say that Babur destroyed Temple and built the mosque, yet the land went to other party. What a one sided scripted judgement.

Supreme Court is our countries elite court and we respect and honor it's order irrespective of its verdict... And for maintaining peace, brotherhood and secular fabric of this country, we will not go to reappeal the case, but not in every case people will remain quite and accept such judgement.... If VHP is thinking that it will take away the same with Kashi and Mathura then it will be only their dream, in such case our country will definitely witness civil war which will take our country back to British era of poverty.

On one hand you appeal for peace and harmony for the verdict, on other hand you give such provoking statements which can instigate violence. Credit goes to the people who have accepted the verdict without any untoward incidents happening.

The Supreme court's verdict today should be accepted by everyone. It is a very good judgement and has been welcomed by all.
But as usual the ruling party is trying to take credit for this Supreme court judgement.
Supreme court, ISRO and other institutions are completely
independent institutions and are supposed to be functioning as autonomous bodies.
If the ruling party wants to take credit for Supreme court decision, indirectly it means the government is forcing the courts to take decisions which suits its ideology.
