New Delhi, Nov 7: A UNICEF research has raised alarms for South Asian youths who are hopeful to land a decent job. As per the UNICEF head Henrietta H Fore, by 2030, over 50 per cent of the South Asian youths will fail to land a 21st-century job because of lack of skills.

Fore cautioned that the skills would prove as a determinant for defining the economic status of a country. “Get it right, and millions could be lifted out of poverty. Fail to do so, and economic growth will falter, youth despair will rise, and further talent will be lost to other regions,” she said.

According to the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), India's unemployment rate stood at 8.45%. This cause is the result of a slump in the economy. The CMIE also urged that India needs to be careful of its current and future situation where unemployment could be on the rise.

The tech giants - Capgemini, Infosys and Cognizant have considerably cut off over 500 senior-level posts. Along with this, the future of 100,000 employees of BSNL’s vendors remains uncertain as they struggle to get their dues worth Rs 20,000 crore settled.

Smriti Irani, Union Minister for Women and Child Development claimed that India will start training its youth between 10 and 24 years of age. The initiative supported by UNICEF aims to engage over 300 million youngsters in education, skill training or employment over the next ten years.
