Smriti in Amethi, Priyanka in Rae Bareli

Rae Bareli/ Amethi, Oct 22 (IANS): Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, on Tuesday, inaugurated a two-day workshop of the newly-appointed members of the Uttar Pradesh Congress.

Union minister Smriti Irani was next door in Amethi to review the progress of developmental projects.

UP Governor Anandiben Patel was also in Amethi to review the development of the region.

The Governor and the Union Minister inspected the district hospital, an old age home, a school, a cow shelter and other places in the constituency. They discussed the progress with local officials.

The two also met local people and asked them about their problems.

In Rae Bareli, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra began her workshop with the newly appointed office bearers of the state party unit. The media was kept out of the event.

Earlier, talking to reporters, Priyanka slammed the Yogi Adityanath government for the deteriorating law and order in the state.

Citing the report of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), she said that Uttar Pradesh was on the top regarding crime against women.

"This is shameful and the state government should pull up its socks. The BJP talks of 'Beti Bachao' but it fails when it comes to providing security to women. Murders have become the order of the day and women are the most vulnerable," she said.

Meanwhile, sources said Priyanka would delegate responsibilities to all the office bearers and ensure accountability.

"The office bearers will have to submit a progress report at regular intervals. They will be taught how to mobilise cadres in the party and challenge the rivals," said a Congress functionary.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is keen to build up a robust party organisation before the 2022 assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.
