Bengaluru, Oct 22: The Muzarai (endowment) department of the state government is planning to ban Kumkum (vermillion) that is mixed with chemicals in the temples that fall under the Muzrai department.

Government is implementing this step as it has received several complaints from the devotees of chemical-laced Kumkum usage in some of the temples that fall under the management of Muzrai department.

During the pooja in temple, Kumkum is bought and after the pooja, the same is given to the devotees. In addition, the Kumkum brought by the devotees is also distributed after the pooja offering. Chemical mixed Kumkum has dark colour and is bad for the skin also. If neglected, it may harm the general health of the person, who uses it.

Dermatologists says that there is a possibility of getting Bindi Dermatitis allergy due to the use of chemical-laced Kumkum. There may be itching and formation of small water type boils in the area, where the Kumkum is applied. Gradually the cells of the skin in that area will die and the colour turns to white.

Giving clarification on the issue, Muzrai minister Kota Srinivas Poojary said, "We have received complaints from devotees that Kumkum mixed with chemical is being used in some temples that fall under the Muzrai department. An order will be taken out banning the purchase and use of such chemical mixed Kumkum in order to safeguard the health of devotees."
