Ravindra Bhat had offered pooja for the idols in the house on Vijayadashami day. He had put a garland on each of the idol and also the golden chain of Bhat was hung on one of the garlands. The following day the flower garlands were removed and given to the cow for eating. However, the Bhat family forgot to take out the golden chain from the particular garland on which it was hung during the pooja. When the family realized the oversight, the cow had already eaten the golden chain along with the garland.

As the gold chain needs to be retrieved, a confused Ravindra Bhat approached the veterinary doctor Dr Dayanand at Sagar. The doctor advised him to wait and see whether the golden chain will come out from the stomach of the cow with the dung. But the cow turned pale in its appearance in a day. Then the doctor decided to operate upon the cow.

The surgery which cost around Rs 2,000 was done on Wednesday and the cow if recovering properly. The doctor says that it will take 10 days for its complete recovery.

As per the information given by the doctor, a cow has four stomachs. When it first eats, it chews the food only that much to allow it to swallow. The unchewed food is stored in the first two stomachs. When the cow rests, it bring the unchewed food back into its mouth, completes the mastication and then when it swallows it again it goes to the third and fourth stomachs.
