Traffic jam for eight hours on potholed Mangaluru-Bengaluru highway

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Oct 20: There was a traffic jam for more than eight hours on Mangaluru-Bengaluru national highway, near Sakleshpur, on Saturday, October 19.

Five trucks and two tankers got stuck in the potholes between Heggadde and Sakleshpur which affected the movement of vehicles for about eight hours from 2 am to 11 am.

Heggadde-Sakleshpur road stretch is in a totally dilapidated condition.

Hundreds of vehicles were seen without any movement on a stretch of 10 kilometers on either side of the highway. Travellers thought that the traffic jam was due to an accident. But, later came to know that it was due to the truck tyres getting stuck in the potholes. Some tyres had even got punctured.

The police rushed to the spot and struggled for more than three hours to clear the traffic. The residents and students in villages between Maranahalli and Donigal could not reach Sakleshpur town due to the traffic jam.

People were seen blaming the National Highway Authority of India for the problem.

Hope our dear politicians, who make tall claims, are monitoring this. It's a shame that the ministers tell lies and let the people suffer as though this stretch of road lies outside India.

Once people are out of India and settled in USA, Canada or Europe, they hardly would like to come back to India. In GCC countries there are no possibilities to take permanent residence other than make fast bucks and settle back in mother country.

Please do not blame the roads for this 8 hour long block. Instead blame the irresponsible drivers who poke in wrong side just get ahead of one or two vehicles, ultimately delaying everyone. If every one followed the lane discipline, the block could have been resolved in half an hour.... there wouldn't have been any block.
The two trucks were grounded in two different spots where there was enough space for two vehicles to move freely .

Modi led BJP government is to be blamed. The job of an elected representative and government is to plan in advance and provide good infrastructure. Since this is a National Highway comes under the purview of the Union Government, they should be no excuses. But BJP leadership is busy with PR stunts, 370 fiasco and Pakistan.

When congress was ruling in the centre there was no problem as the roads were good. After BJP came to power from last 3 years facing the problems travelling to Bangalore due to bad roads. This is the development of Modi. Travellers travelling by 2 wheelers and 4 wheelers use the Hassan- Belur- Mudegere - Charmadi to BC road to reach Mangalore. About 50 Kms extra but roads are good.

Appears govt. doesn't have money for road repairs. Only large statues and monuments are given priority over roads and infrastructure.
