Bengaluru, Oct 18: This year is eventful one on the political front for the state of Karnataka. The coalition government which was holding onto dear life, collapsed due to the rebellion of the 17 MLAs of Congress and JD(S). Though BJP has attained power due to a slender margin, the uncertainty of power is still looming as the numbers are not convincing. In the wake of this scenario, the bye-poll for the 15 constituencies is taken seriously by all the three major political players of the state.
According to Deve Gowda, supremo of JD(S) the state is most likely to go in for a fresh mandate. He said that the PM Modi and national president of BJP Amit Shah are aware of the chaos that will increase in the party after the bye-poll results. Already resentment is brewing among the permanent and loyal BJP cadres about giving party ticket to the disqualified rebel candidates for the coming bye-polls.
Deve Gowda says that Modi and Amit Shah might want the state to go for a fresh mandate after the elections of Maharashtra and Haryana are over as the wave in those states might help the party in the state too.
Speaking on the status of the disqualified MLAs, Deve Gowda said that JD(S) wants the Supreme Court to uphold the decision taken by the then speaker of the assembly Ramesh Kumar. It is difficult to understand why the Election Commission declared the bye elections in the state even after knowing that the decision with regards to the disqualified MLAs is pending in the Supreme Court.
Clearing the air about supporting BJP, Deve Gowda said, "My appreciation of the statue of unity was just for the good work that is done by the prime minister. However, the stand of JD(S) on BJP is the same. Supporting BJP are just baseless rumours." Deve Gowda also said that he does not say that Modi has not done anything for the country. But quickly added that the PM has also made major blunders.
JD(S), who already has parted ways from the Congress in the state, is not in good terms with BJP also. The flood relief steps taken by the Yediyurappa-led government were highly criticized by the JD(S) leaders, who also took out a protest march recently for the failure of the government to bring in any central aid even after such a long time of the deluge hitting several districts of the state.
Deve Gowda said that Yediyurappa has become the CM again only due to circumstance and not on the strength of BJP. He regretted the withdrawal of several projects that were passed by the H D Kumaraswamy government for the development of the state.
