Malpe fishermen assaulted in Maharashtra, fish worth Rs 8 lac robbed

Udupi, Oct 17: A group of fishermen from Maharashtra severely assaulted the fishermen from Karnataka who had gone there for fishing, robbed their fish and other belongings. 

The victim fishermen are from Malpe. 

As per reports, about 200 fishermen surrounded the deep-sea boat from Malpe and thrashed seven fishermen as they liked. They also robbed fish worth about rupees eight lacs and tub, fishing nets, GPS and other machines. 

Fishermen from the Karnataka coast go to Goa and Maharashtra for fishing.

Fishermen from Goa, Maharashtra and Gujarat come to Karnataka border for fishing. But there is opposition for fishing on Maharashtra border. 

The government has not been taking action against harassment of state’s fishermen by Maharashtra fishermen.

    Just bombard the Marathi boats with malpe fire.
    Some recent past those marathis have attacked the Kannadigas boats & this is cowardiness if you don't repay them with the same.
    There must be tit for tat.

    Why are the fishermen fighting ?? Is this a confrontation between India and Pakistan ??? This is stupidity !!! Hope and pray that better sense prevail at the earliest !!!!
