V&A Museum of Childhood to be revamped

London, Oct 17 (IANSlife): The Victoria and Albert Museum of Childhood soon will undergo a major redevelopment, starting late 2020.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the London-based museum said it has received planning permission for the transformation, hailed as a significant milestone in its plans to become the world's most joyful museum of design and creativity for children, families and young people.

The designs include a reimagination of the museum's outdoor landscape, creation of a more welcoming arrival for visitors and a space for relaxation and play within its buildings and neighbouring park.

They also cover an upgraded learning centre for art and design education, which will be relocated to encourage a new relationship with the museum's gardens. Also included is a ‘kaleidoscope' feature staircase, inspired by optical toys from the museum's collection, with a new cafe and relocated ramp, among others.

The revamped museum will be planned by award-winning architects at De Matos Ryan.
