Kundapur: International level chess tournament inaugurated

Kundapur, Oct 16: International chess tournament for chess players whose FIDE rating is below 1600 was inaugurated on Tuesday, October 15 at the grounds of Koteshwara Karnataka Public School. This tournament is organized by Kashvi Chess School (KCS). The tournament will end on October 17.

The tournament was inaugurated by renowned chess player and gold medal winner of Commonwealth Games of 2018, Shriyana S Mallya of Mangaluru.

Shriyana thanked the organizers for giving her an opportunity to inaugurate the tournament. She also said that she practices five to six hours every day and also getting coached through online.

Speaking on the occasion, Sadananda Navada, owner of Galaxy Sports Kundpur, said, "It is really a proud moment for the people of this taluk that this tournament is being held in our taluk. This programme, which is organized jointly by KCS and old students of Karnataka Public School is a grand success."

"Chess is a sport that gives exercise to our brain and makes it sharp. Outdoor games give fitness to our body, while chess helps in developing the intellectual level of a person. In Chess there are black and white coins. But both type of coins get into the same box after the game. This is a lesson for our life. There is no discrimination for victory. Some people have inferiority complex. However, it is possible to overcome that hindrance due to the internal power we have," said Sadananda Navada.

Shantha Gopalakrishna, president of Koteshwara gram panchayat, Ismail Sahib of Bahrain President Group, Nagaraja Rayappanamata, secretary of Kundapur taluk working journalists' association, Subramanya Shettigar, president of Old students' association, Suresh Babu of Kashvi Chess School and Gururaj Shetty, principal were present on the occasion.

The programme was compered by Gururaj Shetty. Before the inauguration of the event Yakshagana performance was presented by Sanidhya, who has participated in the 'Kannadada Kanmani' programme on Zee Kannada TV channel.
