B'lore: Srajana Kaikini wins International Recognition for Creative Architectural Concept

Bangalore, Jul 25: Srajana Kaikini, a final semester student of the department of architecture, RV College of Engineering here, has won the third prize in an international competition, ‘defining a creative hub' held by the Domus Academy, Milan, Italy.

Srajana Kaikini had forwarded her concept about urban re-scripting of Kala Ghoda Art District of Mumbai, blending layers of the past and present in the area around the Jehangir Art Gallery, to create a new, active, inspiring space, without sacrificing its historical attraction and uniqueness. Through her concept and action plan, she had explained about the way in which it can be transformed into a modern cultural complex.

Srajana, who has always been in the forefront all along her educational career, had recently been awarded the 'best graduate student' of the institution for this year.  She has also won the Pidilite award for excellence in architecture for optimum space utilization in 2008. She is the granddaughter of eminent scholar, the late Gourish Kaikini and daughter of Kannada writer Jayant Kaikini. She is actively involved iwith art, music, cinema, literature, and currently has been undergoing training in Odissi form of dance from Guru Kshama Rao.

"Because the field of modern architecture is an ideal blend of art and design, I am keenly interested in architecture. Architecture does not mean just building houses, it also aims at the creation of motivational environment that provides a special inner experience," Srajana explains. She says, her confidence has been boosted with the recognition she has got from an institution in Europe, which is home to historical architecture, at a time she is about to complete her degree.
