Karkala: Kadike Trust confers 'Uttama Nekara' award upon Mohini, Sanjeeva for 'save Udupi saree'

Karkala, Sep 21: 'Uttama Nekara' award by Kadike Trust, here, as part of its campaign, 'save Udupi saree' was conferred upon Mohini Shettigar (72) on September 19 at Talipady Weavers Society.

Mohini Shettigar has been weaving Udupi sarees for the past 52 years.

Sanjeeva Shettigar, one of the only seven weavers of 80 count Udupi sarees in the twin districts and who, for the first time in modern history of Udupi sarees weaves naturally dyed 80 count Butta sarees, was also honoured. He returned to weavng after six years as a result of the joint efforts to save Udupi saree by Kadike Trust and Talipady Weavers Society.



Weavers and assistant weavers along with the staff of Talipady Weavers Society were honoured with incentives by Kadike Trust during the programme.

Trustees of Kadike Trust, office bearers and members of Talipady Weavers Society and well wishers of handloom were present on the occasion.
