Mangaluru, Sep 14: In tune with the orders of the state high court, the state election commission has asked Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner to make preparations for holding election for the city corporation council here. Preparations have therefore been set into motion for holding the local body election here.

The state election commission has requested deputy commissioners of the districts where the terms of the local bodies will be ending by December end this year and also in case of local bodies where court cases have been resolved.

The commission has asked the deputy commissioners to set into motion the work of preparing electoral rolls, preparation of list of polling booths, appointment of polling staff, putting together enough electronic voting machines and list of electoral staff to be recruited, and submit details of preparations made.

It has also requested the deputy commissioners to prepare a list of officer of the level of sub divisional officer or person holding equivalent position at the rate one officer for a group of five wards and submit the same to the election commission.

It may be recalled that the high court had settled the dispute raised over reservation criterion announced by the government by upholding the disputed order of the government, and asked the commission to complete the election process by October end. The city corporation here has 60 wards.
