Bantwal: Illegal sand transportation - Five trucks seized, handed over to police

Bantwal, Sep 14: Bantwal tahsildar Rashmi S R, led a team of officials that conducted operations since last midnight against trucks indulging in illegal sand transportation. The team took into possession five sand trucks and handed them over to the police.

It was found that these trucks were loaded with sand from illegally maintained stocks and being sent to other districts for sale at exorbitant prices at night. The lorries, which were found to be not possessing any licence for the activity, were handed to the police.

The team went to task at about 1.30 am on Friday and by morning, took five trucks transporting sand into custody. Two of the trucks were taken into possession from Narahari, Panemangalore, a truck from Marnabail, another from Chelur, and one more from Padibagilu area in Vittal.

The swift action taken by the tahsildar came as a shock to the sand traders who were caught unawares. The lorries were handed over to the town and Vittal police stations depending upon the jurisdictions where they were seized.

Revenue inspector, Naveen, and other staff of the department participated in the operation along with the tahsildar.
