Mangaluru, Sep 13: The service parade, under the guidance of police commissioner Dr P S Harsha, was held at Police grounds in the city on Friday, September 13.

Service parade was for the officers of 18 police stations within the Mangaluru city Police commissionerate.

Dr P S Harsha received the guard of honour from ACP of CAR Murugesh Upase. The police commissioner was also taken in an open jeep to inspect the parade.

Addressing the gathering, Police commissioner Dr P S Harsha said, "We are focusing on making police people-friendly. We have already introduced 'My Beat My Pride', which helps to stay connected with the people. I must thank the public for their tremendous support; we have over 30,000 active beat members in close to 700 WhatsApp groups.”

"I have personally visited certain places with the beat members and police. At the same time, I have urged people for their support. People of Mangaluru have shown good support and have joined hands with the police. Through ‘My Beat and My Pride’, we collect necessary information from the beat police and members so that we can act on the problems immediately.

“Recently, it can be recalled that, through ‘My Beat and My Pride’ we were able to nab the accused who was absconding from the last 30 years. So overall there were several instances where beat members informed us and we could immediately act upon information such as accident at Pavanje and wall collapse at Padil. We could rush to the spot immediately. So far we have got 30,000 active beat members and the target would be to reach 2.5 lac beat members. Soon an app will be launched for ‘My Beat and My pride’.

"Recently, rowdy sheeters were paraded. We will soon initiate Asha Kiran programme which facilitates these rowdies to transform themselves to lead a normal life in the society. We have discussed with government agencies for conducting training. Some rowdy sheeters from each stations have been identified. Training will soon commence. We will also keep an eye on those rowdies who wants to continue indulging in criminal activities instead of transforming. We will take necessary action against them.

"Even drug peddling is an issue in the city which has to be addressed. Such cases have been filed in Surathkal, Ullal and other police limits. We will take stringent action against the drug peddlers. We will also take measures to bring youths to the mainstream of the society after getting de-addicted from drugs,” he said.

Dr P S Harsha concluded his speech in Tulu, thanking all the people of Mangaluru for the success of ‘My Beat My Pride’.

This was the first time, where a service parade was streaming live in Mangaluru city police Facebook page and twitter account of police commissioner.

DCP law and order Arunagshu, DCP crime and traffic Laxmi Ganesh and others were present.
